CaffCap @ M&TSI

CaffCap is an impulse management cap that controls caffeine intake by utilizing a responsive locking lid. When a user has yet to reach their daily caffeine limit, there is a 3-second delay on lid opening once motion is detected from the user, encouraging them to reconsider drinking. In addition to this, the lid permanently locks whenever the user reaches their daily limit or is drinking past a healthy time. The cap can easily fit onto the top of any bottle, be it an energy drink or cup of coffee through its stretchable rubber attachment. The preset buttons enable easy logging of one’s favorite drinks while simultaneously pairing with a freemium companion app for basic services such as tracking daily and weekly intake. Upgrading to the premium version allows for exclusive features such as monthly and yearly history, a leaderboard with friends, and competitive awards. Compared to the competition, CaffCap surpasses self-regulation and app-only solutions by incorporating a hardware cap component, offering a comprehensive caffeine management solution. Further, the ability to engage with your community and track your friends’ caffeine intake is virtually unheard of in this space.

CaffCap's engineering design sets itself apart from competitors with a unique combination of advanced components, including the Arduino MKR1010, motion sensor, 5V battery supply, servo motor, and buttons. All these features are elegantly integrated into one compact cap. The servo motor moves the cap, with precision, three seconds after detecting motion through a significant change in the motion sensor's vertical acceleration, and remains shut after reaching the daily caffeine limit or it is later than a healthy time to consume caffeine. Unmatched in its category, CaffCap is the only product utilizing a physical cap with such comprehensive components for regulating caffeine intake. Additionally, the lid fits on both energy drinks and coffee cups due to their appeal to our target market.

 

The accompanying app enriches user experience to offer intuitive drink logging and visually appealing charts by incorporating valuable feedback from my minimum viable product. For instance, I created a Figma app before actually programming it to gauge user response and test how users interacted with the app by observing them. As a result, I changed the next button placement as I realized users were clicking on a less important preset instead of finding the next button to advance to the tracking page. I also included a premium version that adds exceptional value, providing many useful features at an affordable price. With the premium version, users are able to view their all time history and connect and track their friends’ caffeine intake. Embracing a vision of continuous improvement, CaffCap diligently monitors sales and demographics while conducting surveys to gather real-time feedback, ensuring it remains at the forefront of caffeine management solutions.

Overall, CaffCap is a caffeine tracker, impulse management cap, and companion app for teenagers who drink caffeine that tracks and prevents caffeine consumption more effectively than self-regulation and mobile caffeine tracking apps.
